After you arrive at Heraklions airport or harbour, you can, by taking a City Bus, go at Bus Station for Messara that is located at Chanioporta.
There are two bus stations for City busses (blue buses) one is at the Airport and the other is at the Port. First you have to get a bus ticket from a kiosk and then to wait for a little while at the nearest bus stop for the bus to come. You can tell the driver to stop at the Chanioporta (Chanion Porta). You can recognise the place from the National stadium of Heraklion or the Ancient Venetian Walls. The distance from the airport is about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic and from the port is less. The transport price is 1,10 approximately.
A few meters from the Bus Stop is the Bus Station for Messara.
On the other side, you can take a taxi from airport or harbour and transport you to the Bus Station. The transport price is 8,00 approximately.
From there you get your ticket and take the next bus for Matala. The distance is about 65 km, approximate duration 2 hours and you will have the chance to see several villages that the bus stops for a while. The transport price is 7,80 approximately.
There is regular bus service between Heraklion and Matala.

Taxis are quite cheap in Greece, so they can be considered a very convenient way of moving around in Crete.
Taxi fare structures are the same all over Greece and they are regulated by the Greek State. Taxis in cities and bigger towns MUST use the taximeter and the driver has to switch it on when you get in. If he forgets to do so, then ask him to.
There are two basic tariffs: Tariff 1 is the "day rate" used from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm and Tariff 2 is the night rate valid from 12:00 pm to 5:00 am. Depending on the time of day and the journey the driver must select the correct rate. You can hire a taxi to come to Matala. When you intend to travel a long distance, then ask the driver how much he expects the fare to cost. For long distance trips there is certain tarrif. By doing so you will avoid unpleasant surprises. Also, remember that in the arrival halls of the airports or at the taxi stands outside the airport there are boards with the taxi fares to the most popular destinations.
The distance, from Heraklions airport or harbour, is about 72 km and the fares cost is approximate €65. Furthermore, we offer you the chance, after contacting us, to have a taxi, arranged and hired from us, waiting for you in the airport or the harbour and get you in the hotel. In this case the cost is €45.

You can rent a car from a car rental office. There are plenty of them at the airport, the harbour and inside the city.
Travelling by car you can follow the road from Heraklion to Moires and continue for Matala. Furthermore, we can arrange for you, to rent the car you prefer from one co-operative car rental office, always at the best price. All you have to do, is contacting us and we'll manage the details so as you have the car you want at the time you want. There is parking area at the hotel.
